Ruthy's obituary

Ruthy Antonia Virella Harris entered into rest on May 8, 2023 at the age of 44 in Buffalo, New York.

Ruthy was born on July 31, 1978 in Buffalo, New York to the late Rhoda Lillard and Antonio Jose Virella, Sr. She was blessed with Christopher Harris, her only son of 14 years.

Ruthy's beautiful and sweet nature touched the hearts of many, and her bright smile and presence brought joy to those she loved and encountered. It's clear that she was blessed with numerous gifts and talents throughout her life. Even from a young age, Ruthy was recognized for her above-average intellect and exceptional writing ability. This recognition led her to win a full four-year scholarship to the esteemed Nardin Academy in Western, New York. At Nardin, she blazed trails as a young scholar diverse in thought, ancestry, heritage and language.

Ruthy's creativity extended beyond her academic achievements. She was a published poet and contributed to the "Buffalo Latino Village" as an author of a monthly column. As a freelance writer, she created a blog, podcast, and website where she shared her unique voice and perspectives. Her passion for writing allowed her to connect with others and express herself authentically and passionately. She was also gifted with a beautiful singing voice.

While Ruthy primarily lived in Buffalo, she also spent some time residing in North Carolina and Nevada. Throughout her life, she possessed an entrepreneurial spirit, utilizing her skills and talents to serve her community through her Internet business “Blossom, Achieve & Excel” Inc. Her dedication to community service extended to her long-time YMCA membership, where she enjoyed swimming. Additionally, Ruthy's love for cooking led her to establish a home business focused on Puerto Rican cuisine inspired by her paternal grandmother Maria Antonia Ojeda.

Above all, Ruthy cherished her role as a mother to her son, Christopher, and held a deep love for her family. Her love, encouragement, smile, and presence will sorely be missed by all who were blessed to know her. May she continue to live on in the hearts, memories and actions of those she touched, and may she rest in peace.
