Ruth Reneé Dowlen Banks, of Creede, CO, passed away at age 71 on April 11, 2019. Reneé was born May 1, 1947, in Wichita Falls, TX to the late John Ed Dowlen and the late Nelda Ruth Griffin Dowlen. She grew up and attended school in Temple, OK, playing clarinet in the Temple High School band.
After High School, Reneé attended Cameron University, where she met her soul mate, John (J.C.) Banks. They married and began their journey together on June 3, 1967. To this union, two children were born; son Kenneth Edward, and daughter Diana Reneé.
Reneé earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from Oklahoma State University in 1970, and worked for Stillwater Hospital while J.C. completed his doctorate degree. It was during this time they began their family. Upon J.C.’s graduation, the family moved to Lubbock, TX and several years later to Mission, TX.
The family relocated to Lewisville, TX in 1980. Once both children were attending school, Reneé began working part-time as the church Secretary for Lewisville Baptist Church. In 1987, J.C.’s job resulted in another corporate move to Greenfield, IN for one year. In 1988, they ultimately settled in Altus, OK. Reneé worked for First State Bank during their time in Altus. Reneé and J.C. retired in 2010 and relocated to Creede, CO to live out their Colorado dream.
A loving mother and homemaker, Reneé was a talented cook and prided herself on preparing homemade meals for her family. She was an avid reader, always enjoying a good book. She was also very talented with a needle and thread, making many beautiful cross-stitch projects. Although Reneé was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014, she continued to maintain friendships, and was involved in the community as much as she was able. She loved attending services and fellowship with her church family at Creede Baptist Church.
Reneé is predeceased by her mother and father, as well as her beloved husband, J.C.
She is survived by her children Kenny Banks (Shannon), and Diana Collier (Robbie); Four grandchildren: Kyndal Beasley (Matthew), Paige Banks, Tristan Collier, and Ethan Collier; and one great-grandson, Owen Beasley; her brothers Chris Dowlen (Pat) and Mark Dowlen (Brenda). She was a wonderful, caring mother and grandmother and will be missed by us all.
A service of remembrance will be held at Creede Baptist Church on June 22, 2019 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to Creede Baptist Church – 600 La Garita St – Creede, CO 81130.
