Russell's obituary

Russell John Perrone, known to most as “Gus”, 71 years old, passed peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, March 14, 2026. Russ was born in Hartford, CT, on June 19, 1954, to Tom (Chief) and Ann (Sheridan) Perrone. He spent his childhood in East Hartford and East Windsor, CT, and graduated from East Windsor High School in 1972.

He lived to the fullest and embraced every adventure that came his way. In his youth, he spent time skydiving, always loved race cars, and knew his way around an engine. Many years were devoted to serving as a volunteer firefighter in Broad Brook, CT. During the six years he lived in Arizona, his scientific mind led him to collaborate with a neighbor on building a fiber-optic system that was sold to Sci- Expo, a science and technology convention in the mid-80s. His early career took him across the country as a truck driver, and he worked in the trucking industry with his brothers and father for the majority of his life. After moving to Florida, he built from the ground up the home where his family lived for thirty years, opened an auto repair shop and eventually settled into marine construction, where he spent almost 30 years as the owner of Black Creek Marine Construction.

Russ shared a sincere heart with everyone he met. He may not have been on time, but he always showed up for the people who needed him. He was always ready with advice or a better way to do something, whether you asked for it or not. The many, many people whose lives he has touched are left with memories of his genuine laugh and easy charm that made people feel like they’d known him forever.

Russ leaves behind his wife, Angel of 15 years, brothers Tom and Mark, daughter Katia. He has joined his son, Tony, his brothers, Rick and Steve, his parents, and many other family members and friends in his place of rest. He was also step father to Kim and Karen, grandfather to 11 grandchildren and a great grandfather to one great-granddaughter.

A celebration of life will be held April 25, 2026 at 3:00 pm at Courtyard Marriott, 610 Wells Rd., Orange Park, FL. The adults who choose to can join the family after the celebration at Locals Pub, 1580 Wells Rd. Orange Park, FL.
