Russell E. “Gene” Leach
June 18, 1936 – March 3, 2022
Russell E. “Gene” Leach was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He passed away peacefully at home on March 3, 2022, at the age of 85, in Baldwin City, KS. Gene was born on Thursday, June 18, 1936, son of Russell and Minnie Leach. He grew up in Wellsville, KS. He continued to live around the corner of his childhood home in Baldwin City, KS until his death.
He attended Wellsville schools until 8th grade. He became a lifetime farmer and worked for Franklin County, KS Public Works Department maintaining the county roads. In his leisure time, he enjoyed farming and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Dianna and Robert Hull, of Ottawa; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Tracy Leach, of Baldwin City; his two sisters, Norma Sobba and Joyce Murray, of Ottawa; his brother Robert Leach of Pomona; six grandchildren, Cody Leach, Jennie McDow, Katie Feuerborn, Kelsie Williams, Emma Leach, and Anna Leach; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Gene’s loss is felt by all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.
A private graveside service was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Douglas County, KS for the survivor of the home.
