Rudy's obituary
Mr. Rudolph "Rudy" Oblak, II, 71, of Burbank, CA, passed away on December 01, 2023 after a long illness.
Rudy was born on June 7th, 1952 to Rudolph and Mary of Wyano, PA along with twin sister Maureen. The eldest of five siblings, Rudy grew up hunting, fishing, and playing the game he loved so much - baseball. While attending South Huntingdon High School he met his forever love, Karen, in 1966, and they married in 1981, going on to have one child, Rudy Oblak III.
After graduating from Yough Senior High School in 1970, he went on to study History at California State University of Pennsylvania. With degree in tow, Rudy moved from Pennsylvania to California in 1975 and landed his career job as a Cost Accountant for Angelus Sanitary Can Machine Company where he worked for 38 years.
In his time outside of work Rudy loved cooking, collecting coins, growing tomatoes and peppers, and listening to music. There was, however, a higher love in baseball. Throughout his life, Rudy coached hundreds of kids with dozens of teams in several states. His time with the St. Francis Tigers parochial, Sun Valley Park Bums travel, Harvard-Westlake HS Varsity, and Notre Dame HS Varsity teams are some of his all-time favorite memories.
A member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, The Wounded Warrior Project, The USO, Paralyzed Veterans Association, and the St. Joseph's Indian School, Rudy was an avid philanthropist who constantly gave everything to those less fortunate.
Anyone who knew Rudy knew that he was kind, generous, incredibly funny, and a truly wonderful friend. But it was the people - those he just met and those he'd known for decades - that made the largest impact on his life. For it was these friendships, these moments, that he cherished most of all.
Rudy is survived by his sister Maureen, brothers Joe, Gary, Ronnie, wife Karen and son Rudy. The family requests that all flowers are sent to Forest Lawn and any letters or notes be sent to 1034 E. Tujunga Ave., Burbank, CA. There will be a funeral service held on December 14th, 2023 @ 9am at the Forest Lawn Old North Church - 6300 Forest Lawn Dr., Los Angeles, CA.
