I send my condolences to all of Ruby's family. I know that she is and will be missed for all time. I was sad to realise that Ruby could no longer be contacted in this world. Although we had not been in touch for a while, I shall always remember her with fondness. We used to email one another about our mutual family history interests;  during our researches, she would say that we could call ourselves the Birman and Dean Detective Agency. According to our family tree programme, we are second cousins once removed. Ruby posted to me some lovely photos of herself and her present and past family. If I could still email Ruby, I would say, something like, "Ruby, the 1921 census is available now!" and I have downloaded the image for Jules George Lowe and his family because I know that Ruby would like to see it. "His place of birth is given as Belgium, Ruby!". Rest in peace, Ruby.

Ruby (and Len) have been a major part of my life for over 53 years, I was young when we met, and she was a major influence in my life, in fact I am probably the person I am today down to her help, guidance and support - I sincerely hope she was aware of it, - its one of those things you wished you had said more often! I was 19 when we met and I thought then, and indeed until she passed away, that she was a beautiful woman, both inside and outside. She was kind and generous with everything in her life. I will miss our conversations so much, she was always there in my times of need, with a consoling word, a guiding hand and a depth of information, and logic that constantly impressed - even in the last few years. I visited 3 years ago and, as always, found I would come away with some gem about life and people. May you rest in peace, my wonderful 'Aunt', My love and condolences to Len, we will be talking again soon. xx
In response to "How did you first meet Ruby?"
Ruby captivated me when I first met she and Len at my friend Darlene Valle's house which was next door to Ruby and Len's house. Her smile, listening eyes and words were kind, then funny and loving. I believe she was like this with whom ever she met. Much love to you Len with her leaving you behind after her "getaway." Miss you, Ruby.
I only knew Ruby though email when she shared such touching memories about her friendship with Sandy. What a dear lady. I so appreciate the knowledge and insight she provided. And I happily donate to support Arbor Day, a tradition that had its beginning here in Nebraska -- just like Sandy. May they both rest in peace. Tam Pauley, representing the Sandy Dennis Foundation.
Ahh, our Dear Ruby. There's sadness here, but more so overwhelming love and appreciation. From the time Pia and I moved in next door to Ruby and Len before our 2 boys were born, we were relieved to find such lovely, considerate and charming folks as the Birman's. Little did we know how wonderful they were, but as the years started to pass, we discovered their wonderfulness.

Our friendship turned into family and Ruby and Len were more assistant grandparents to our boys than neighbors. For our boys, Len and Rube were golden and always totally open and loving. I can still remember them running over to the fence and finding that precarious slope, to squeeze through a slippery opening in the fence to see them.

Ruby was a sweet-pea. She radiated a beauty and warmth well into her 90's. An incredible conversationalist, she interjected a brand of humor that was both English and unique. Always a smile, inquisitive questions, and a present interest. When we moved to the valley we were fortunate enough to really experience Ruby's exquisite gardening inspirations on our new property. One could feel and see her shinny smiling face in ever flower she lovingly planted. She beautified our home and our life with her glowing spirit.

I can't believe how lucky we were to know her and Len and to embrace them as family. Ultimately, there is no such thing as death. The opposite of death is birth, but life has no opposite, and life is what we are, and Ruby lived a tremendously fulfilling life surrounded by the love of friends and family and of course, the love of her life, Len. The world is a better and brighter place by her presence and contributions. I can feel her strongly even right now as I write this.

Ruby, your were exceptional and we are grateful.
with eternal love

Where do I begin... From when I first moved in next door to Ruby and Len they extended a warm welcome. We became fast friends. Ruby and I would go out shopping, do lunch, etc. Thanks to her I have a lovely garden. She was retired from her landscaping business when we met but offered me a special friend rate and came out of retirement a bit. Just having to walk next door I think had something to do with it.

We pretty much had an open door policy with a back yard gate that she had created making it so easy to just pop over. She was my go to girl for problems and happy news!!! She always asked about my day, my work, my life, etc... always a great listener with good advice. She shared her amazing life stories with me. So many memories, holidays spent together, birthdays celebrated together, all of us a special family.

I was so blessed to have a best friend who lived right next door for all those years. Really how often in life does that happen??? A friend who was fun and loved me as her daughter but without the real life history that can get in the way. So lucky was I !!! She will always be a big part of my life. She told me about a book she read years ago of how the people in our lives are people/souls we've been with in our other lives... and I do believe that and that we'll be together in the next life too. Thank you Ruby.

I love my Ruby and Len. He's my go to guy now!! Ready Len?
Love you all so much!

Dear Len,
Truly sad news to learn that Ruby's gone. She was the brightest of stars. We well remember her smile that lit up everything around, and her magic in enchanting everyone, from our young Josh to the birds that ate right out of her hand. We'll miss her. Our love to you Len.

Dear dear Len,
I am so sorry.
What a most loved woman. I miss her and will always wish for more time with her. I loved her radiant smile, her love of cats, her ability to hostess with champers and guac, her knowledge and love for plants and how I am cherishing the Yellow Clivia she gave me that traveled in my luggage to CT. A stunning woman with a heart of gold and a ton of class -- I will miss hearing her voice on the other end of the phone. xoxo
