I attended Monroe High School when Hal was superintendent. Ruby volunteered in the teen parent program where my daughter was being taken care of while I went to school. Ruby saw us as a part of her family. She was an amazing person. With her and Hal’s influence in my life, I became a better person. I became an educator myself. You will be missed Ruby. Thank you for all you have done for me and others. Heaven got another angel. Love Tanya
Dearest Ruby,

From Bivins, Texas to Vancouver, Washington, to Seattle, Washington, you and I were blessed to travel along the same road with our families...loving and celebrating and caring for one another and those we embraced along the way. I'll miss the laughter we shared...mostly at ourselves. You were so beautiful, honest, uncensored in saying just what you felt. I loved that about you!

Bye bye, beautiful. I know that you still live, and that we will meet again .... Melverene Gibson (Skeet)
Although I hadn't seen Ruby in recent years, I will always remember growing up just a few doors from each other.
I have some great childhood memories, like Sunday rides with Ruby in her family's Hudson. We would all chip in for gas and ride all afternoon. Back then gas was about 25c /gallon! Another great memory was our childhood singing group, the Charters, which consisted of Ruby, Barbara, Penny, and myself
We often sang at Parker's Ballroom on Aurora Avenue. We had a great childhood.
Rest in peace, dear friend.
