There are a few people in this world that one never forgets. Those that regularly pop into your mind for no apparent reason even though they have been gone for some time.Ā  Ruby is one of those people for me.Ā  Many times I smile or laugh at the memory of a conversation we had.Ā  She had that dry,Ā  mischievous sense of humor that I miss so much.Ā  That deep chuckle she had when she'd say something half funny and half naughty still echos in my mind and still cracks me upĀ  Ā Our 40 year friendship was packed full of kids birthday parties,Ā  picnic lunches on my lunch hour from work,Ā  our joint birthday celebrations with her Mom as our birthdays were days apart from one another, our annual New Years coffee,Ā  Avon, and so much more.Ā  She was there for me for every celebration and heartache,Ā  as I was for her.Ā  The births of our second children,Ā  new houses,Ā  new jobs, graduations, the death of my son,Ā  our husband's illnesses, the hysteria of Y2K,.....until she wasn't.Ā  How I missed her when I lost my husband last year.Ā  She was the one and only friend I could pour my heart out to unashamedly and she would reflect back so much love that you couldn't help but feel better. She was wise beyond her years and had a way of making sense out of things that defied reason. And she was a Taurus. I big plus in my book!Ā  I loved her dearly,Ā  and miss her more.Ā  She remains forever in my mind and heart.Ā  ā¤

Ruby, you were celebrated by many yesterday - your special Taurus day!Ā  Also, in honour of your feisty strong spirit, I was able to channel your assertiveness that was called for at the time (a what would Ruby do moment).Ā  I placed a pretty yellow bouquet of Supermarket Flowers by your shining picture that Gary gave me last time Shea and I visited.Ā  Love you dear sister and guide!

I have been thinking about dear Ruby and her beloved family as the holidays approach. This morning as I was looking at my e-mails, the subject line from A Taste of Home was, FUDGE! FUDGE! FUDGE!Ā  Ā My heart, melancholy, thought, RUBY! RUBY! RUBY!Ā  I plan to dig up her fudge recipe that she gave me - it feels long ago.Ā  Ā Thank you for keeping this lovely (that's a Ruby adjective that I adore) website profile available for folks like me.Ā  So very grateful for sister-spirit Ruby always, but particularly during this special time.Ā  Love.

The following messages were from Ruby's colleagues/caregivers at Companion Care where she worked for many years. There is a theme that runs through what each person has shared...a pattern of Goodness. Ruby honoured each and every person that walked into the office, or called on the phone. She was present, engaging, patient, positive, and so much more. She could wrap a person up in an affirming hug in person or remotely. She had genuine Heart, where her empathy towards others shined forth! ...and we are all Grateful.

"So sorry to hear about Ruby she was such a sweet lady; I loved her...but of course everyone did."

"I was soooo sad after reading aboutĀ Ruby.Ā Ā Ā RubyĀ was ALWAYS so helpful, cheerful, kind and made me feel so welcome.Ā  I really appreciated the time and effort she gave me. Such a loss for everyone that was fortunate to have known her.Ā  I do not think she ever quit smiling. I shall never forget her."

"She was an earth angel!"

"May she be free and happy in her new state of being! She was such a bright light in our little world!! She was such a bright spot in my life and she will be missed.Ā "

"Thank you for letting me knowĀ RubyĀ has left us to be w Jesus and for sharing the links. I am gratefulĀ  to be able to say goodbye for now toĀ Ruby. She was a beautiful soul full of joy and God's goodness."

"I know it must be sad for her family and yet I can feel the exhilaration and glistening of her Soul as her transition was described when she left her body.Ā  Her Radiance always shined through her form ofĀ RubyĀ and now shines even brighter with no limits.Ā  Ā  There is only Light and more and more Light!!!Ā  Ā ;) I feel truly blessed to have known her in body and to sense her Essence now. Thinking of her makes me smile from a deep place in my heart.Ā  She is an incredible teacher."

"I will always remember what a beautiful person Ruby was! We just lost another angel in our scary world! Prayers to her family."

"Continuing to think aboutĀ Ruby and how lucky I was to know her."

"So sorry to hear that Ruby passed.Ā May her soul rest in peace. "

"My Beautiful Ruby..she had the best laugh."

"Ruby was such a kind and gentle woman. I will certainly miss her.RIP"

We Love you Ruby!

To choose one time that was the most fun Ruby and I ever had is impossible. Literally, without exception, every time Ruby and I were together we laughed until our stomachs ached. We called it "Solving all the world's problems". We would sit in a cafe for hours sometimes talking about everything under the sun. (We always tipped xtra for taking up so much time!) By the time we would get up to leave, many of those seated near us had joined in our glee. I like to think we made their days a little brighter. I must admit, sometimes our conversations were a little naughty, laughing at our husband's, bosses, children or any variety of others behind their backs. Then we would pull ourselves together and say, "After all, there are so few of us perfect ones left!" And then we would howl at ourselves until we cried. How I miss her!
In response to "What was the most fun you ever had with Ruby?"

The greatest act of kindness I witnessed from Ruby was her selfless dedication to caring for her mother during her final years. She put her own needs on hold to become her caregiver and advocate, staying with her, providing her everything she needed, consistently offering compassion, companionship and love. When she could no longer be independent she continued to advocate for her wellbeing until her passing. I truly believe it was that experience that led her to a late career involving the care of others, which she excelled at.
