Condolences to Adrienne, Royal III, Anne & Emily & families from the Bilsing families.      I remember seeing the photo of Dad & Mom (Uncle Dean & Aunt Marie Bilsing) with Ev, Frank, Bryan (Frank’s son) & Royal - Dad’s expression shows just how pleased he was at being with his favorite nephews again.       The photo of Royal & Dad in Indianapolis was when Royal took Dad to the Indy 500. (That’s took in the literal sense - Royal drove to Ohio to pick Dad up, had Dad stay with his family, took Dad to the race, and later, drove Dad back to Ohio - Royal treating his Uncle Dean “royally.”        I remember Royal’s distinctive, melodious voice and his delight in telling stories - stories of going fishing with Uncle Dean, stories of our stern, German grandmother Bilsing putting Royal and his brothers to work weeding her vegetable garden and of the B-B gun incident that resulted in a hole in Grandma Bilsing’s sunroom window. (Window remains intact - B-B gun hole still there.)          Dad and Uncle Royal we’re both very proud of Royal. Dad always talked fondly of Royal. (He called him Juni, short for Junior.) Uncle Royal spoke proudly of Royal’s accomplishments and awards. He also told how the government would fly Royal to Spain to work on high level Navy projects.         In his lifetime, Royal has made many outstanding contributions, shared with us good jokes and stories, and helped us see the possibilities of adventures. His intelligence and kindness has benefitted us all. In living, Royal has surely made the world a better place. Well done, good and faithful servant. Heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Eckstein, Royal III, Anne and Emily for the passing of Royal Jr.
Royal Jr. was an impressive presence in the life of mid teen age friends of Royal III. Royal Jr.’s memorable baritone resonated with authority and conviction.
Only a few of the many examples Royal Jr. lived were the value of critical thinking for it’s own sake and importance of thoughtful judgement.
In a day when Friend’s Parents mostly remained enigmatic, I remember Royal Jr. as consciously occupying the present moment.
I knew Royal Jr. had an undercurrent of Coolness when I saw his record collection included Stan Getz and Miles Davis.
