Personal note from Rory

Sharing these beautiful tributes from Thom and Michelle that just touch my heart . . . along with some of Roy's and my favorite tunes that continue to play, reminding me that my love is still with me . . . and will be always . . .

My dad’s “dad” left him & his family when he was very young, so he never had a real example of a father growing up. That didn’t stop him from being an amazing dad, man and all around great human being. Last Monday July 19, 2021 dad had a very extensive open heart surgery. The surgery itself went great but he never woke up afterwards and slipped into a comatose state. Mom and I held out hope for a few days until an MRI confirmed he had suffered several very large strokes.

Yesterday we made the decision to pull life support and this morning July 26th at 2am dad peacefully slipped away to join his family and friends who have been patiently waiting on him in heaven. My father had a heart of gold, and I find it fitting that his final act helped his amazing doctors learn new things in what they called one of the most difficult heart surgeries of their careers. I already miss you so much old man. I just want to go to another car show together, or watch you play with my sons. The day before his surgery we were hanging out and he made me promise to take care of mom if something went wrong. I said “of course,” then I hugged him and said “now shut up, I’ll see you Tuesday ya big baby.”

I will keep my promise, and I can’t wait to see you again In paradise. I love you dad. RIP Roy Williams, best dad I ever had, and a damn good friend.

Our family lost a marvelous soul yesterday. Roy Williams was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. I am so proud to call him my father in law! He was a veteran in the Coast Guard and served his country with honor. Always loving and supportive, he set a tremendous example of devotion to his wife and to his son and grandchildren. Everone who met him loved him. He was jolly and humorous, and he gave with his whole heart. He has left an honorable legacy, and we are blessed beyond measure that our boys were able to spend time with him and truly know his great character! This last week has been so difficult for our family. We have relief knowing he is with our Lord and Savior now - no more pain or sorrow. But he will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, dear Papoo.
