Roy's obituary
He is survived by his high school sweetheart, wife Rory (Rose Mary), Newnan, Georgia; their son Thom, his wife Michelle, and their sons Caleb, Alton, and Thomas, Senoia, Georgia. This family’s lifetime of blessings of love beyond measure, amazingly proud sappy moments, a gazillion date nites, car shows, races, and rock concerts, insane wackiness, zany pranks, never-ending gotcha lasts, vicious UNO games, and endless water balloon/super soaker parties will fill our hearts forever.
Roy is also survived by his 2 sisters, Sue Huff; and Mary Holmes (Jim); niece Heather Irvin (Todd), nephews Chuck Huff (Angel) and Ilyas (Katie) Holmes, aunt Mary Lou Lindgren, and his Sista Reine Brigham (Brent), his sisters Nancy Kreis (Danny) and KimBURLy Duke, and brothers Steve Duke (Crystal) and Skippy Duke, and their families.
After honorably serving 10 years in the United States Coast Guard, and a 35+ career in the trucking industry, Roy was able to enjoy 4 years of retirement at home with Rory. They laffed at each other’s goofiness and idiosyncrasies. And they especially loved ‘their time’ of watching the sunset thru the trees that reach the sky every evening.
Relocating to Senoia and Newnan, Georgia, from Denton 5 years ago to be closer to Thom and his sweet family was their best decision; their legacy to their grandsons of ‘lotsa love and laffter’ absolutely being fulfilled.
An avid reader, Roy was the Evelyn Woods of any World War II and whodunit novels with his Aussie shepherd Gypsy at his side; she just needed a pair of glasses and a book. An antique car fanatic – especially of 1964 Ford Galaxies – he loved enjoying car shows with Thom, and watching Mecum and Barrett Jackson non-stop with buddy Tom Ventimiglia, driving both their wives nuts. And he never missed Ask Miss Pearl’s (Colleen Sprayberry) tell-it-like-it-is-or-get-a-grip column in The Newnan Times-Herald.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021, for this man with a big heart, this husband, this Dad, this Pappoo, this friend, who has touched so many lives. He shall be sorely missed.
