Roy's obituary

Roy Wayne Jones Sr., 82, of Yuma, AZ, passed away on November 15th, 2020 after a battle with Dementia.


Roy was born in 1938 to Hiram and Audrey Jones in De Queen, AR. The family later settled in Coolidge, AZ where he graduated from Coolidge High School.


After graduation, he joined the Army and was honorably discharged. Throughout his life he experienced various jobs, finally settling as part of the maintenance personnel with Cibola High School where he retired.


Roy was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his children Tykie, Jonsey and Cookie and his wife Teresa and always tried his best to support them.


Roy was also passionate about writing and could often be found at the library or used bookstore when he wasn’t at home. He was a beloved baseball and softball coach and an accomplished author.


Anyone who knew Roy knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Hiram and Audrey Jones; and his sister Judy Staggs. He is survived by his wife Teresa, daughter Audrey "Tykie" (Benny) Collins, son Roy "Jonsey " (Kelly) Jones Jr and daughter Rita "Cookie" (Greg) Derma, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.


The family requests in lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite local youth sports program, Yuma County Library or Alzheimers. Association.There will be a burial service on November 21, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
