As a former band student at Ed White Sr. High, I can not even begin to explain the influence Mr. McCance had on my life. A sense of belonging to something bigger. A musical team. The thousands of lives he touched, changed and possibly saved via music. I saw him a few years ago at a birthday party his former students held in his honor. What a joyous night that was. My dearest condolences to all of Roy's family. May you be filled with peace, knowing that Roy's life made a difference.
What a joy it was to get to know Roy, play in and for him in Recycles, Clay County Community Band, Penney Community Band, etc., and to listen to his clarinet artistry in local jazz groups. He even invited me to participate in my one and only professional gig! We also shared a love of flying. Condolences to Roy's family! He will be missed.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Roy's family and friends. Roy had such a positive impact on my musical life through his teaching, support, kindness, and endless encouragement. I am still playing today at my older age as a result of the passion and love of music he helped place in my heart. He will be truly missed by so many.
Peace now to you and your family, Roy. You’ll always live in my memory. Everything you taught me as a musician remains alive as I pass it on to my music students and use it daily in my musical career.
