Roy's obituary
Roy Frank Brooks Jr. of Kailua, Hawaii, passed away on October 24, 2025 at the age of 76. Born on February 21, 1949, he was the beloved husband of Catherine Brooks. Roy is also survived by his sister, Barbara Werner, and his children, Alika Brooks, Lisa Brooks, Lee Davis, Sean Spencer, Suanne Johnson, Sari Sanchez, and Shera Spencer and 27 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Roy demonstrated his belief in his responsibility towards bettering his community. His passion for service was evident in his every action, driving him to inspire others and equip families and communities for success. Roy had dedicated 20 years as a police officer with the Honolulu Police Department. He also co-founded and co-owned the original Hungry Hawaiian Snack Company. Roy was also formerly employed with and provided services to Kailua Intermediate and Kailua High School, Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility, Rainbow House Rehabilitation, and Abilities Unlimited Honolulu. He also served as a Community Liaison for the Partners in Development Foundation and through his work, he became involved with Adventist Health Castle Foundation and programs such as the Giving Tree that provided gifts for those in need and other necessities for the homeless.
Roy's personality was aptly described as 'a presence always known.' His favorite recreational activities were diving for he’e, laying net and camping at Swanzy’s. Roy loved to tell ghost stories and take his children and grandchildren on adventures around the island. In his later years, he would often spend his days out shopping.
His legacy will continue to inspire and shape the communities he touched. Roy’s life serves as a testament that love, service, and dedication can indeed make the world a better place. As we remember Roy Frank Brooks Jr., we also celebrate a life lived with purpose and an unwavering commitment to community.
