Roubina Bahlavouni Baghdassarian was born on April 11, 1930, in Tabriz, Iran to Yeghishe and Nevart (Malentzian) Bahlavouni. At age 3, her family moved to Tehran, where she attended elementary and high school. Roubina taught physical education to elementary school students before working at Hoechst Pharmaceuticals. She was also very active in the PTA of the school her daughters attended.
