Ross's obituary

Ross Smith, beloved husband, son, brother, friend and passionate culinary artist, was born on March 8, 1983, and passed away on July 16, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Amanda (Barclay) Smith, parents Terry and Laurie Smith, Sister and Brother-in-law Whitney and Russell Kirkpatrick and countless extended family, friends and colleagues . Known by many for his unique blend of goofiness, passion and quiet intensity Ross was a cornerstone in his family and very close circle of friends.

His personality shone brightest through his work. As a protective yet sensitive man, Ross was endlessly dedicated to his family and friends. His kind nature and devoted passion for culinary arts were the heart and soul of his life's calling. The lessons he offered extended far beyond the kitchen walls, teaching many the value of efficiency, the importance of attention to detail, and the virtue of patience.

Ross's accomplishments were numerous and all cherished. He was a proud alumnus of the Western Culinary Institute, graduating in 2005.  Committed to his culinary passion, Ross served the McMenamins enterprise for a remarkable span of two decades. Helping to train new staff and open multiple new locations, early in his career were among some of his favorite memories. However, the moment of marrying his soulmate, Amanda, in 2009, held the dearest spot in his heart.

The legacy Ross leaves behind is as rich and beautiful as the dishes he crafted. His passion for the culinary arts, his inherent love for making people happy through his food, and his generous spirit of mentorship will continue to inspire and influence those lucky enough to have known him. Among his many culinary triumphs were the creation and execution of many specialty dinners. These included seafood boils, paired scotch, bourbon, and rum tasting dinners, a James Beard inspired tasting dinner, whole hog roasts, and even one memorable wedding featuring a whole roasted goat, provided by the bride's family.

A Celebration of Life for Ross will be held on August 5, 2025, at 3:00 PM at McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse. As we remember Ross, we celebrate not only the exquisite meals he created but also the warmth and joy he nurtured in his community.
