Ross's obituary

Ross Christopher Paratore, age 69, died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family on the evening of April 17th, 2023 in Millbrae, California. Ross is survived by his children, Ross James Paratore, Christopher Joseph Paratore, and Gina Theresa Paratore, his step-children Elizabeth Dutra Anderson and Charles Edward Dutra, and his sister, Francine Paratore-Verdier. He is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Edwina Paratore, of San Francisco, his grandparents Rosario and Alviena Paratore, and Edwin Oliver Rydberg and Ruth Hutchison Rydberg.

Ross was born on April 14th, 1954 in San Francisco, CA to Frank J. Paratore and Edwina “Diggy” Marie Rydberg Paratore. Growing up, he loved to play basketball, hangout with friends at Ocean Beach, and go dancing. He attended Most Holy Redeemer elementary and Aptos Middle School, he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1972, and went on to play basketball at City College of San Francisco. He excelled in mathematics and studied Business at San Francisco State University. Before becoming a General Contractor and working for the family business, Paratore Construction Co, Ross served his community as an EMT driver in San Francisco. Ross comes from generations of labored construction work. His grandfather, Rosario, born in 1896, immigrated from Sicily to San Francisco and became the 45th contractor in the city of San Francisco. Rosario built homes and buildings across the city. Ross continued his family legacy throughout his life through his work of improving, creating, and building in San Francisco and the Oakland Bay Area.

Ross married Helen Louise Hextrum in 1988 in South Lake Tahoe, and they started their family together. Helen and his children remember him as a funny, lovable guy who encouraged them to pursue their dreams. Ross was a generous individual who loved having company over to share in delicious Italian dinners, all the while talking about sports and their favorite teams, stats, and players with Ross Jr., Charlie and Chris. Ross was a passionate Bay Area sports fan. If there was a Giants, Warriors, or 49ers game on, you can guarantee he was watching. He also loved 70’s and 80’s hard rock and roll, his all time favorite radio station was 107.7FM The Bone. He especially loved weekday mornings with Lamont and Tonelli. In his final months, Ross cherished spending time with his family. He spent every day in the family office at Market and Castro street, enjoying his morning coffees and pastries with his daughter, Gina, while teaching her how to run the family business. Ross was hardworking, caring, and immensely proud of all of his children and their accomplishments.
