I was a student and SU friend and was known for having a prodigious appetite, so Rosie was kind enough to ask me to join them for a home-cooked meal. I had forgotten about this invitation and had already eaten a standard student meal; TWO chicken potpies (each weighing in at about 50 lbs.) for dinner when I remembered the invitation, I drove to their apartment where Rosie had cooked enough food for about 10 people. When I didn't attack the food with my usual alacrity, I could see that Rosie was upset (and giving me her patented "stink eye") and thought that I didn't like her food. I ate dinner and when I didn't go for seconds or thirds and saw the look on her face (I realized that that was the last dinner invitation I'd ever get if I didn't explain.) I told them what happened. This mollified Rosie and we'd been friends for more than 50 years . But whenever I see one of those potpie "gut bombs" I think of this incident. 8-)Â

I met Rosie when doing locums work. She and I both wanted me to stay primarily at Issaquah. We were connected by Jen Spence, The clinic was desperate for help. Â I told Rosie, Â " I will work under two conditions: let me set my own schedule so I can travel; and 2, I want to work in my pajamas (scrubs)". In response, she said, Â "When can you start?" Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Ashley and I got into a lot of trouble  throwing rubber frogs across the room.  We got a few to stick to the ceiling. I thought we were inproving morale but, well, maybe not. Ask Ashley.
We would stay late together, and these were my favorite times. We would talk about anything, often about the other doctors. She subtely nudged me into being a sort of role model, or guide, for the younger ones. I took this to mean I could cruise the clinic at all times, 'helping.' Poor Erica was always looking for me when there was a patient. I'd dutifully pick up the frogs and go see a patient. Thanks, Rosie

First of all, thank you Melia for all you have done with these websites so I can feel part of the great Rosie. Â I am unable to attend because I will be in Spain during the service in Seattle. Jim was kind enough to call me personally after she died, that meant a lot to me. Please tell him. Â I'll post a story. Â Thanks again, great work on your part.
