Rose's obituary
Rose was born in Frederick, MD to Hyland Wars and Dorothy Smith on Aug 11, 1944.
She attended several schools in Frederick County and was a graduate of Frederick High School.
Rose moved to Baltimore at an early age and married Charles Shearn and had two children. She was employed with Baltimore City Public Schools in many capacities, driving a school bus and later becoming a teachers’ aid, assisting a blind student from 3rd grade until graduation. She learned how to use a braille machine in order to transcribe the schoolwork to her student. She retired from Baltimore City Schools.
Coming from a family of musicians, Rose was a phenomenal pianist and appreciated most genres of music, specifically classical.
Before becoming ill, Rose was a very active member of SS Philip & James Catholic Church in Baltimore. Her favorite hobbies were gatherings with her family, listening to music, bowling, playing cards with her friends and attending entertainment-wrestling matches.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Shearn; mother, Dorothy E. Smith; father, Hyland Wars; grandmother, Martha E. Smith; sister, Patricia A. Smith; brother, James E. Smith; and daughter, Deanna Shearn. Two daughters, Marcia R. Smith and Larri V. Jackson from an earlier marriage, which ended in divorce, also precede her in death.
Rose loved her family dearly and is survived by, son, Charles Shearn; her siblings, Michael W. Smith, Mary C. Smith, Paul V. Smith, Bernard D. Smith, Thomas M. Smith, Teresa E. Smith, and Austin A. Holland Jr.; grandchildren, Charles Shearn, Latasha Shearn, Aldin Dailey, Meggan Shearn, and Marcia Shearn; and great-grandchild, Angel Dailey; nieces, Natasha Smith, Kendal Grove-Smith, Monica Smith, Jessica Smith; and nephew, James Smith and many cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held in the future.
