WIDSOM OF SOLOMON, 3:1-9 (NRSV)
A READING FROM THE BOOK OF WISDOM
But the souls of the just are in the hand of God,
and no torment shall touch them.
They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead;
and their passing away was thought an affliction
and their going forth from us, utter destruction.
But they are in peace.
For if before people, indeed, they be punished,
yet is their hope full of immortality;
Chastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed,
because God tried them and found them worthy of himself.
As gold in the furnace, he proved them,
and as sacrificial burnt-offerings he took them to himself.
[In the time of their visitation they shall shine,
and shall dart about as sparks through stubble;
They shall judge nations and rule over peoples,
and the Lord shall be their King forever.
Those who trust in God shall understand truth,
and the faithful shall abide with him in love:
Because grace and mercy are with his holy ones,
and God’s care is with the elect.
PSALM 23:1-6
R: THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD, I SHALL NOT WANT
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul.
R: THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD, I SHALL NOT WANT
He leads me in right paths for his names sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil;
for you are with me; your rod and your staff – they comfort me.
R: THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD, I SHALL NOT WANT
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
R: THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD, I SHALL NOT WANT
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life;
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.“
SECOND READING
ROMANS 6:4-9 (NRSV)
A READING FROM THE LETTER OF ST. PAUL TO THE ROMANS
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried[a] therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the sinful body might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin. For he who has died is freed from sin.
But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. For we know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.
GOSPEL
A READING FROM THE HOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING TO JOHN
“Do not let your hearts be troubled.
You have faith in God; have faith also in me.
In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places.
If there were not, would I have told you
that I am going to prepare a place for you?
And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come back again and take you to myself,
so that where I am you also may be.
Where I am going you know the way.”
Thomas said to him,
“Master, we do not know where you are going;
how can we know the way?”
Jesus said to him,
“I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.”
ACCLAMATION
"Alleluia, I am the Ressurection and the Life, says the Lord, he who believes in me will live forever"
