Background
The legacy of the well-known Colorado Arabian Horse Club and Region 8 Youth Horse Judging Team began with a vision of providing youth once-in-a-lifetime opportunities while expanding their skills in critical thinking, public speaking, communication and interpersonal relations. The powerful and supportive force behind this dynamic team was our fearless and passionate leader, Jodi Zeier. Since the mid-90’s, Jodi influenced and shaped the lives of many youth and brought home numerous awards. We are honored to continue her tradition with such an impactful youth development program and touched she chose the team as a beneficiary. Donations can be made via PayPal to CAHCJudging@gmail.com orvia Venmo to the CAHC Judging Team (@CAHCJudging).
The CAHC/Region 8 Judging Team has earned the National Championship title from the U.S. Arabian National Show in 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020 and the Reserve National Championship in 2008. Additionally, members have brought home over $60,000 in scholarship monies as well as tack, jewelry, jackets and countless other awards.
Horse judging is considered to incorporate all levels of critical thinking and teach youth to analyze and evaluate various breeds and disciplines of horses. They are required to learn the appropriate judging criteria for classes that may be presented at a show or contest and also to verbally defend their placings with a memorized set of oral reasons. Horse judging teaches youth how to evaluate and place horses based on the horse’s conformation in relation to function, it sharpens their decision making skills, improves their written and oral communication skills and strengthens their interpersonal relations.
Participating in county, state and national contests supports our equine industry and encourages our talented and driven youth to continue on in the equine world. These once-in-a-lifetime opportunities provide connections which have proven beneficial to our team members in their futures as they tackle other projects and activities, begin their collegiate careers and emerge into adulthood. They further their knowledge of horses, evaluate high quality horses, live and compete with and against their peers, improve their public speaking and critical thinking skills and are exposed to national level equestrian events which may influence their future educational, career and lifestyle decisions. Further, these competitive contests draw many college recruiters who frequently speak with our team members. There are many scholarship opportunities as well as professional connections made during our travels.
Donations can be made via PayPal to CAHCJudging@gmail.com or via Venmo to the CAHC Judging Team (@CAHCJudging). Thank you for your support of the CAHC/Region 8 Youth Horse Judging Team and helping provide experiences for our youth. We are extremely honored to continue Jodi’s legacy.
