I so sorry for your loss. Rory was a good man and did his best to bring that goodness to everyone he touched.

Rory was the kindest, most authentic and altruistic person I’ve ever known. What a privilege it was to have known Rory for the last 28 years. We worked together on all things related to children whose lives intersected in the Juvenile Justice System. Rory was passionate and relentless in his quest for justice for all youth.  So many of those children benefited from having the best counsel they could ever have had and their lives changed for the better having had Rory as their Public Defender. He was also my neighbor and my best friend. He will be dearly missed. Rory, you truly made ‘the difference’ for all of us. RIP my friend.

I had the honor to work with Rory and through that to become his friend. He was a man of quiet passions,  who wasn't afraid to speak or act on those passions. His first passion was his family. They were his first context, his first concern, and in a sense his definition.

Rory's  second passion was redemption. He believed in redemption -- that almost anyone could be redeemed. Those things he worked for -- juvenile justice, Teen Court, Drug Court, Veterans Court, parole for adult-sentenced juveniles -- were all directed at creating or bettering structures  within which the disfavored could redeem themselves. He could be really annoying, because he just didn't let up. If you were part of the structure -- legal, political, social -- it was your duty to help in redemption, and Rory had little patience with those who slacked. And you know what? He was corrrect.

We need people like Rory to keep us right. The world is a lesser place without him.

Rory taught me how to believe in myself even in shadows of doubt. His faith in God never wavered and he extended his love to others with that same kind of faith. My life is forever changed for the better because I knew him. May he rest in peace.
Thank you Rory for being a great friend to my mom who you called "the General" at work =).  I remember your kindness toward my family when ever we needed help.  I will truly miss you .
A caring, good father, a wonderful friend and a great legal advocate. Vaya con dios.
