Ronold's obituary
Ron is survived by his parents Vergil and Barbara Backes; his only brother Vergil Backes the III, his nephew and two nieces Jacob Backes, Chanel Backes, and Kyndal Backes; the mother of his children, Janet Backes; his three children, Janell Sorensen, Shelley Bean, and Kimberly James; his son-in-laws David Sorensen, Brian Bean, and David James; and his 13 grandchildren.
Ron was born in Springfield, OR on October 14th, 1963 to Vergil and Barbara Backes. He graduated from Thurston high school in 1981 and then attended Warner Pacific College. On January 28th, 1984 he married Janet Baker and brought 2 year old Janell Baker into his life and family. In 1992 he legally adopted his first daughter Janell Backes. On November 12th, 1987 and January 11th, 1989 respectively, he welcomed two more daughters, Shelley and Kimberly Backes. Ron loved being surrounded by his Backes girls.
Ron was a devoted father, served his country faithfully in the United States Air Force, and was an avid Oregon Ducks fan. He enjoyed golfing, basketball, riding his motorcycle, gaming with his grandsons and camping with family. He often participated in basketball & golf tournaments with his church and with IBEW local 48. He was a problem-solver who often took on difficult and unwanted projects at work, and kept safety first. He loved Jesus and was involved in many church activities, including campus security, church bus driver, & sang in the choir. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
