Ronnie's obituary
Ronnie Dean Lewis of Oak Hill, WV passed away at home at the age of 72 after a long illness on September 4th, 2022. He was born on April 19th, 1950 in Long Branch, WV to John and Doretha Lewis and was preceded in death by his parents as well as his six brothers – Thomas, Leon, Jessie, Harry, Charles, and Don. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Helen Virginia Lewis (maiden name Riddick) and his daughters Catherine Lewis Wente (husband Ryan) and Danielle Renee Lewis (Patrick Webb) and grandchildren Alexandria Evelyn and Samuel Isaac Wente and Matthew Dean, Mary Elizabeth, Malachi James, and Myles Edward Webb and a host of nephews and nieces and faithful German Shepherd, Amadeus.
He graduated from Mount Hope High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Tech and a Master’s degree from West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. He was an accomplished athlete and played both high school and college basketball and went on to a successful 35 year teaching and coaching career at Oak Hill High School. Coach Lewis taught history and served as a mentor and role model for generations. He absolutely loved teaching and coaching and gave his all to his family and students. His smile and his enthusiasm were contagious. Ronnie was also an avid hunter and fisherman and was featured along with his father John Lewis in an issue of Field and Stream magazine. He was a member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren and an integral part of the community. He was an excellent chess player and enjoyed gardening, reading, watching sports and documentaries, and most of all spending time with his beloved wife and high school sweetheart Helen, their daughters and their six grandchildren. He was much loved by all and will be dearly missed.
