Ronald's obituary

Ronald J. Swider, 75, of Livonia, MI passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Ron was born on June 22, 1950 to Leonard and Stephanie Swider (Zylka).

It was while attending St. Hedwig’s High School where he met the love of his life, Margaret Swider (Wisniewski), whom he playfully called his “girlfriend” for years. They married in 1971 and built a beautiful life together full of traveling, casino trips and Detroit sporting events. Many winters were spent escaping the brisk Michigan cold in Orlando, Florida.

A proud journeyman lineman for DTE Energy, Ron was dedicated to his work and accrued over 30 years of service. He loved his job as an underground splicer and would routinely stop to chat with work crews well after retirement. Ron was a deeply proud father and grandfather who cherished watching all three of his sons and all seven of his grandchildren compete in sports at all levels including (but not limited to) hockey, track, cross-country, soccer, volleyball, figure skating and softball. His passion for hockey is renowned and would even be the only fan in the stands at his sons’ beer league hockey games.

He was a character for sure, eager to have a good time. He had an easy going nature and was always ready to do “whatever.” His favorite beer, Stella Artois, was consistently stocked in his fridge. He was regularly found “putzing” around in the garage. Everybody loved his homemade Polish raspberry liqueur — Wiśniówka — a tradition carried on from Ciotka (Aunt) Cele.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Margie and their three sons: Corey (wife Jessica Keeler), Kevin (wife Angela) and Kyle (wife Diana) and their children. Although he jokingly liked to be known as the “mean” Grandpa, the softest spot in his giant heart was for his Grandchildren: Gabby, Carter, Dominic, Avery, Brynley, Elliana, and Stella.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Stephanie and Leonard Swider as well as his sister Judy.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 26 at 9:30am (with in state beginning at 9am) at St. Aidan Catholic Church with a luncheon to follow.
