He was an amazing person. Quirky and brilliant. I can remember having lively conversations with him about current events, politics, and a favorite topic of his, China. I can picture him now sitting with his legs crossed, head cocked to one side as he listened, nodding and rubbing his chin or his arms folded across his chest. You just knew he was formulating a response in his head probably a "gotcha" answer that made me think.
Lots of good memories from the summers I spent in Davis. Being a city kid, summers in Davis were idyllic. Horseback riding, swimming, exploring the neighborhood. After dinner, we would pile in the car and go for ice cream at Baskin Robbins and then to the bookstore to browse for the latest Nancy Drew. Books and reading were big with Uncle Ron. He took us to the University Pool when it was being built so we could run around in it before it was filled. He had these cool things in his office that we played with, looking back now, they were probably models for magnetic field concepts of his. I thought they were toys!
I have a good friend in Los Gatos whose hubby is an expert in nano-scale magnetic device design. When he found out Uncle Ron was my uncle he got so excited. I think his perception of how smart I am went up a couple of notches. I laughed, I knew Uncle Ron was a professor, but here was this guy talking about him like he was a rock star!

I’ve met Uncle Ronald only a handful of times but have already felt his kindness and generosity of spirit. I am grateful to have met him and will miss seeing him. I am sending love and hugs your way. My deepest condolences and wishing you all strength during this tough time.

I was really saddened when I heard the news of Ron’s passing. Though he and I weren’t close, I’ve been friends with Rosie and Bonnie for many years. It was always lovely to see him at events supporting them.
