Ronald's obituary
Mr. Ronald Brown Prather, 73, of Royston, GA passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at his home in Royston, GA.
Ron was born in Anderson, SC on November 29, 1948, son of the late James W. Prather and the late Elizabeth Brown Prather. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Elizabeth Cohan Prather of Washington, DC; grandchildren, William and Georgia Prather; brothers and sisters-in law, Dr. James M. and Barbara Prather of Carrolton, GA, and William C. and Nancy Prather of Greensboro, GA; and sister, Joan Prather Miller of Buford, GA.
He was beloved alumni of North Fulton High School in Atlanta, GA (known to his friends as “Ronnie”) and Columbus State University, where he studied Southern Literature, Theatre, Meisner, and Improvisation.
A staunch supporter of small towns, local businesses, organic farming, and normal folk, Ronnie lived simply and disdained ostentation. From movie sets to coffee shops, he never met a stranger, and greeted the world with a broad smile, a loud laugh, and an open heart. Witty, outspoken, and comedic, Ron stood four square in all relations and was cherished by all in his community, one that included but was not limited to former teammates on the Northside Rats softball team, friends from Joes’ coffee shop in East Atlanta Village, actors from across a myriad of theater houses and movie sets, and the employees at the local BeBops and Roystonian restaurants in downtown Royston, GA.
An artistic soul, Ron’s long term passion was acting, which was an on-going pursuit having had already seen success in TV, stage and films, including Return to Macon County, Kiss of the Tarantula, 3 the Dale Earnhardt Story, 42 (the Jackie Robinson Story), and the Accountant, among others.
By far, however, Ron’s first love and full devotion was to his family. Brother to three siblings and three siblings in-law (Jim and Barbara, Joan and the late Bill Miller and Bill and Nancy). Uncle to nine nieces and nephews (Jim Jr., Annette, Julie, Mike, Ben, Melissa, Michelle, Alex, Ashley), and eight grandnieces and nephews (Libby, Stephen, Claire, Brayden, Brody, Bryce, Aiden and Iley Rose). Loving father to his son and daughter in-law (Carl and Lisa). Father figure to his son’s step-sister (Grayson), and doting grandfather to two grandchildren (William and Georgia). He loved his family members fiercely, and they loved him in return. His light will shine bright in our memories and hearts forever.
We will celebrate Ron’s life on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00pm in Royston, GA. For those who are interested, a viewing will be held from 12:30pm until the memorial hour. A zoom link to the memorial service is provided below.
