Butch's obituary
Ronald Bishop, better known as Butch to his family and friends, was born July 4, 1943, in Havre
de Grace, Maryland, the youngest of 13 children born to the late Oscar and Sarah Bond Bishop.
Ronald was educated from K-12 at Havre de Grace Consolidated School. He received the Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Arts Education from Maryland State College and the Master of Science Degree in Industrial Technology from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
Helping others has always been Ron's hearts desire which influenced his choice of teaching as his vocation. His 38 years of teaching Industrial Arts included the Umversity Wisconsm-Platteville, the Cecil County Public Schools in Maryland, and the Harford County Public School from which he retired. Ron offered help to others in numerous home improvement proJects and the bulldmg of our homes. He was proud to plan and supervise the addition to St. James AME Church supervising the planned addition to Flat Rock AME Church. His gifts seemed not only to be in heart but also in his hands because he felt anything could be made or fixed and he would not hesitate to say "let me see what I can do" and he did.
Ronald was an avid sportsman starting with his participation in varsity high school and college sports and bowling. During his career in the Maryland Public Schools, Ronald was also a highly respected track coach in both the indoor and outdoor arenas. His teams were highly successful in county, and state meets and Ronald took a winning high school team to Jamaica.
Since retirement Ronald became an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling to various courses around the country with his friends, fraternity brothers and family. Ronald was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and a charter member of the Iota Alpha Lambda Chapter.
Ronald accepted Christ at St. James AME Church Gravel Hill. He loved his church and became personally involved in the upkeep and improvement of God's church both at St James and here at Flat Rock. Ronald served as trustee, steward, usher, member of the male chorus and chairman of the building committees. Ronald Bishop was a mentor, father figure, brother, cheerleader, encourager. He was a real male role model of all that is positive in life. Ronald Bishop was truly a "Man of God"
He leaves to celebrate his life his wife of 45 years Rev. Arthurine Bishop, his children Paul, Tifanie, Deborah, Diane, and Anthony; grandchildren Antoine, Mia, Travis, Demyra, Brooklyn, Bryce, Alexandria, Thomas, Cameron, Benjamin, Corey (deceased), Shawn Sr.(deceased); great grandchildren Dailyn, Corey, Shawn, Jr., Travis Jr. and Da'Lyn; Siblings Eugene, Albert, Geraldine, Grace and Dorothy and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
