Ron's obituary
Born in FL, Ron spent his childhood running through orange groves, fishing, swimming and playing baseball. Even has an adult, Ron loved his home state and never felt more at ease than he did on a beach. He was an unapologetic roller coaster enthusiast and looked forward to annual family trips to all types of theme parks. Life events took Ron to Tennessee in his early twenties but he never waivered on his life-long loyalty to the Florida Gators. While in Chattanooga, Ron worked as a nationally certified addiction counselor, helping teens and their families at an treatment facility. At the same time, Ron worked toward his degree in computer science at the University of TN, Chattanooga. After graduating, he entered the business world and launched a long career in tech. This eventually led Ron to NC, where he signed on with the start-up, MDeverywhere, met his wife, Cathy and became Dad to Parker, Taylor and Kelsey. Ron took to fatherhood like a fish to water. So much so that he and Cathy decided to have more and a few years later, Makayla was born. In 2007, Ron branched out on his own and started his company, CTO Outsourcing. Ron successfully provided fractional CTO services to Triangle start-ups and small companies right up until his untimely passing.
In addition to being lovingly dedicated to his family, Ron was generous with his time and enjoyed mentoring young entrepreneurs and technologists. One of Ron's great passions was golf and in 2016, he joined a local non-profit, using golf to help young people fulfill their potential to create positive change in their community. Ron was a passionate supporter and volunteer with Swingpals for 9 years, serving as a mentor and a board member.
Ron Harman was the best brother, friend, father, husband, son, mentor, business partner, and so much more anyone could have asked for. He was an inspiration to us all, with kindness, patience, and a passion for learning guiding his life and every choice. He always put others first, doing all he could to protect and provide for those he cared about. His unconditional love taught all who knew him how to love a little better. Although you wouldn't know it, he was usually one of the smartest in the room and could read people like an open book. He was full of sarcasm and never ending jokes, and always knew what to say to make sense of a situation or to provide comfort.
Despite his passing on June 25th, 2025 due to heart failure, his unfailing love, witty comments, problem-solving, and patience will leave an ever-lasting impact and continue guiding the lives of those he touched. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Catherine Harman, and his four children, Makayla Harman, Kelsey Bennett, Parker Bennett, and Taylor Bennett as well as his sisters, Julie Harman and Tammy Layton and brother-in-law, Steve Layton.
