Ron's obituary
Ronald “Ron” R. Galarowicz, 70, of Lisle, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
Ron was a fun guy, even though he wasn’t fond of mushrooms! A goofy family man with a big heart, he was a dedicated Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed traveling, poker, rom-com movies (and a few manly films), and sipping a classic old fashioned. He cherished playing cards with his close-knit quartet, including Laurie, Paul and Mary, training Cheri on how to make an old fashioned the right way to carry on his legacy, and cheering on his fantasy football team — the Taz Man was champion of the Otter League in 2015 and runner up four times in 18 years.
Ron graduated from St. Laurence High School in Burbank and worked in various retail and management jobs including at Jewel, Zayre and most recently with the Compass Group at Hinsdale Hospital — whom he considered the best crew ever.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Eleanor (Kuczala) Galarowicz.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years who considers him her rock, her soulmate, her everything, Mary (Kaminski) Galarowicz; brother Joseph Galarowicz (Melani); daughter Jill Griffin (Kevin); stepsons David Kantorski (Kate), Dan Kantorski (Kathy), and Eric Kantorski (Rebecca); nieces Allison Christensen (Scott), Rebecca Galarowicz, and Melissa Galarowicz; and grandchildren Orion and Kadence Griffin — who called him “Papa” — as well as Brady, Anthony “A.J.,” Jack and Benjamin Kantorski — who called him “Grandpa.” He was “Uncle Ron” to many, many, many more.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 1 from 3-8 p.m., and a Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. Both services will be casual attire (as Ron would have wanted), held at Modell Funeral Home, 7710 S. Cass Ave. in Darien, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to help Ron’s family purchase a memorial plaque in his name at the Brookfield Zoo.
We hope this obituary made you want to celebrate his life!
