Ronald's obituary
Ronald Eugene Gaither, 67, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on March 12, 2025.
Ron Gaither was born in Alton, Illinois, to Howard and Wilma Gaither. Ron spent his childhood and youth in South Plainfield, New Jersey. From an early age, he developed a love for running and became an avid cross-country runner, competing throughout high school. He also played the trumpet and tuba in his high school marching band. Additionally, Ron was very active in the local Boy Scouts chapter. Even as a teenager, he demonstrated the ability to take charge and respond quickly while caring for those in need. Because of the skills he developed at an early age, it was no surprise when Ron found his calling as a police officer. He served as a DeKalb County police officer for 31 years. One of his proudest moments was the day he completed his rookie training and was sworn in as an officer.
Ron had a strong work ethic that extended into ministry as he served on various ministerial boards. He also worked in the Prison Ministry, teaching inmates about the redemptive power of Christ. After retiring from the police force, Ron began traveling, something he had not done for over 30 years. He journeyed across the country and overseas, attending prophecy conferences whenever he had the opportunity. In recent years, Ron discovered a new platform for ministry by posting reels on his Facebook and Instagram accounts. At the time of his passing, he had amassed over 12,000 followers simply by sharing scripture from God’s Word daily.
Ron always loved animals, and later in life, he found a true friend and companion in Sarge, his beloved Boxer Bulldog. Sarge faithfully stayed by Ron’s side, enjoying countless adventures together. He shared Ron’s love of running, and when Ron could no longer run, he and Sarge would walk miles together. One of Leah and Megan’s fond memories of their dad was when he was determined to walk the 50th Peachtree Road Race with them, even though his knees were bad. He trained and trained with Sarge, walking daily. It was a hot day, and the hills were steeper than he remembered from the last time he participated in the Peachtree Road Race many years ago. But he didn’t give up; he kept going and pushed himself to cross the finish line.
Ron will be remembered as a man of honor and integrity. He had a gruff exterior, but a caring and tender heart lay beneath. It didn’t matter if it was a friend or a stranger; he would do anything to help someone in need. Ron felt a calling to minister and assist others, and no matter where the Lord ordered his steps, he was always at the center of that call. He was a wonderful storyteller, and with his wit and unique perspective on life, he was never at a loss for words. A devoted and loving father, as well as a faithful friend, he will be missed.
Ron is survived by his children, Leah Gaither of Flowery Branch, GA, and Megan Meyer (Jeremy) of Duluth, GA; sister Dee Brown of Augusta, GA; and brother-in-law Roger Beale of Peachtree City, GA.
