Dale and I were the first extended family to meet Roman when he, Sam and Liz flew from Italy to Alabama for Cull’s Army Ranger graduation.
I remember Sam and Roman entering the lobby that day and both wore matching smiles that lit up the room! I was blown away by how much I already loved that sweet sweet boy!
Sam is such a generous mother, she had no problem handing him into my arms. I remember wondering then how someone so small as Sam could have a baby to big. Yet it was perfectly understandable how she had a baby so happy!
When I finally gave Dale a turn to hold him, I remember saying out loud that he finally “looked” normal baby sized. Dale’s 6’7” and broad shoulders dwarfed the little man!
Despite it being one of the South’s worst heat wave and thunderstorm filled weekend, Roman was happy to go to anyone (a trait he never lost). We carried him all over town from brunch to ice cream to late lunch before we had to finally leave for home.
Getting to see Sam and Cullen as parents was amazing! They have such a calm and confident manner that it reflected in Roman.
Being able to see Liz and Abigail as doting aunts just made me beam as the memories of all three of those women , including Sam, as little girls Roman’s size came flooding back.
I am overwhelmed by the powerful bond of family and I am filled with the love I felt for and from Roman.
I will eternally be grateful for the days of Roman’s life I got to spend with he and his beautiful parents and Aunts. I am grateful to know Roman’s spirit lives on and his legacy of laughter and love remains!

I never got to meet Roman in person but talking to Sam and Roman on the phone was a part of our daily routine. Sam and I would talk about our days while Alex and Roman babbled to the phone like THEY were the ones catching up. Roman had such a big personality at such a young age that it felt like he was in the room with us whenever he had the Marco Polo spotlight. Roman will always be Alex’s first best friend. ❤️

I met my perfect nephew Roman for the first time in Italy when he was about 6 months old. The amount of love and warmth I immediately felt from him the second I held him was beyond. He had the most calming and peaceful demeanor and was just the snuggliest little guy with the most delicious thighs. He was the easiest and best little traveler and and put a smile on everyone around him’s face.

Dear Cully and Sam,
I hurried home in early January because you were bringing Roman over to visit. I was so happy to see all of you. Roman let me hold him and he put his head my shoulder. What a sweet boy! He was so fun to watch. He could stand and balance and would stay up for a long time by putting his arms out and raising up and down on his toes. He was smiley and sweet and we all loved our visit. I think about you all the time and I’m grateful you have each other.
I love you,
Aunt Stacy
