Roland's obituary
Roland Lilavois, 82, of Mukilteo Washington, passed away on February 23, 2023 after over a 20 year battle and valiant fight with Parkinson’s Disease.
Roland was born on April 13, 1940 to Gloria and Franck Lilavois in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. As a child and a young adult he excelled in school. After graduating with honors at Saint-Louis de Gonzague, he went on to study medicine in Spain where he swiftly discovered it was not the right fit for him. Upon returning to political and humanitarian turmoil in Haiti, Roland sought citizenship in the United States for himself and later his parents and siblings, but always remained connected to his Haitian roots, and later instilled a deep love for Haitian culture and music in his children. Upon moving to Queens, NY, he pursued his love for Math working at a bank by day, while attending Pace College by night. Roland graduated with an accounting degree and began his prestigious career in the iconic American Standard Co building, and would go on to independently serve a variety of accounting clients over the years, both domestic and abroad, including an extraordinary amount of pro-bono and volunteer work.
On a blind date in Times Square on New Years Eve in New York City in 1965, Roland met the love of his life, Jacqueline (Jackie), and in September of 1966 they were married, and went on to have 3 children, Bernard in 1970, Randolph in 1974, and Eric in 1979.
In 1972 Roland and Jackie moved to California, where they would spend the next 45 years, the majority of which at their beloved Avon Ave address in San Gabriel. In 2018 they headed to the great pacific northwest to call Washington home.
Roland was a man of exceptional character, great integrity, a protector and confidant, kind, caring, and extremely generous to all. He spoke with calm purpose and consideration, and he was adored and highly respected by everyone he encountered.
His family meant everything to him, and he was unendingly proud of his three sons, always supportive of their passions, pursuits, and endeavors. He was always supportive of his wife Jackie, and as she devoted her life to the Boys and Girls Club, Roland became just as dedicated to the cause, volunteering his time and talents in anyway he could, even building and programing accounting software the club would use for over a decade.
Roland fully immersed himself in everything he pursued, was incredibly handy, often taking on large home improvement projects at home and for others. He was incredibly passionate about Soccer, and cherished the many years he spent coaching, and volunteering as “Chief Referee” in San Gabriel and Temple City.
As his grandchildren were born, Roland's life gained renewed perspective and purpose, and he went to great lengths to make sure each of them were supported, loved, knew they were special, unique, and could do anything they put their minds to.
Roland is survived by his wife Jacqueline, his sons Bernard, Randolph, and Eric, his grandchildren, Blake, Khloe, Makayla, Melina, Madeline, Luke, Annabelle, and Roman, and his sister Marie-Denise.
