Roger was a real character! I so loved my brief opportunity to work alongside him on some computer-related issues with the Garifuna translation, which later led to my being on-hand (with my young daughter) for the dedication. And I'll never forget the time I dropped hip off at a bus stop so we (short-term team working on rebuilding after Hurricane Mitch) could have use of his pickup. Got a flat tire in the pouring rain, in the dark and struggled to find the jack and tools.  Then I couldn't see to get the hub cap off and didn't know what to do. I was ready to hitch a ride back to town when God sent an angel to help me. It was dark and I never did see what he did, but he had the spare on in no time, and I was on my way. (Missed dinner though!)
My time with Roger while delivering a van and school bus to Honduras was priceless. His joke-a-minute personality kept Ray, Marlin, George, and I laughing all the way. His passing has left a big vacumn in translation efforts, but our mighty and resourceful God will provide. - John

What a privilege to know and work with Roger in Guinea-Bissau. He was so wise, caring, and fun. Praise God for his faithful testimony and perseverance even with chronic pain. I'm thankful he's walking pain free and rejoicing before his Savior. I pray God's peace and comfort to his dear family.

Roger was a perpetual friend, never wavering in his friendship, so brilliant and yet so humble. Yes, he cared so much for the lowly, even the drunkard because he knew the Lord could change that life, as well as the lives of all sinners and give them eternal salvation. He was a person one could not help but love as he exuded love.

I cannot possibly list or tell all the ways that Roger helped and encouraged me, but I do know that the translation of God's Word into one variety of Mixtec would never have been completed without his advice and mentoring.  Roger, I miss you but I know you're now with the Lord, which is far better.
