Roger II was a high school buddy of mine (we both had 1960's GTO's!), and it was there I was introduced to Pep's gym. Roger showed me around and I started lifting to put some weight on my 6'0, 140 lb body. Roger "Pep" was often at the gym, pushing himself to train, and giving us training tips along the way. Over the years I beefed up to 185, which was a good weight for my martial arts competition class, though this lanky build maxed out at 275 bench press; I can't even imagine what it's like in the league where these guys are benching 400+ lbs. As impressionable kids fresh out of high school, it did us good to have a role model who lived the simple virtues of going after your goals through hard work and sweat. Thanks Pep!

I remember my first time at Pep’s gym. I left two 25lb plates on the curl rack, Roger finds them and shouts to everyone in the gym “Who did this?” Total silence until I stepped forward and admitted it was me. He then announced because I came forward “Add 3 months to his membership!”, then several guys piped-up, Roger, I left weights over here and there…..,very funny, but good times at Pep’s gym.

I think there are a lot of guys out there, myself included, that started on a path at Peps gym we still continue to tread. Rest In Peace, my thanks and my deepest condolences to the Paull family.
