I worked with Roger at the MJ. He was a Sergeant then. He would come down to our Archives office and we’d talk about the SF Giants. I was born & raised in SF so it was fun to hear him talk about my home team. He was a fun & very kind man. My brother Bill always said Roger was a great guy and well respected. He is missed by all who knew him.⚾️

I met Roger when I was a brand new North Patrol Deputy.  Roger was an "old salt" working days and I was just getting started on Graves.  Our paths crossed mornings as he made his way in and I on my way out.  Always easy going,  steady and very honest, we all liked Roger.  It came to pass, the department was reorganized into the team policing model and Roger became  the leader of or shift, old District 1, Day-shift.  We had many adventures and eventually it came my turn to wear the stripes.  Roger told me he would polish my boots the day I got promoted and he made good on his word.  I bet Lt. Gianelli, never guessed it would be with his Class-A tie he just loaned Roger before the ceremony!  Those were the days!

Roger- The world is a lesser place without you in it.  I will always cherish the memory of our time together.  Out of my whole career, those old "street-cop" days were the best.  I know you are standing guard at the gates. See you at shift-change my old friend.

I have stories that will make you giggle about Sgt Booker44!  Just sayin'  He rolled with that  handle on email.  Sgt Booker 44.   That means something to those that read cop stories.

So Sorry to hear this news.  A dear soul that was taken way too early.  My deepest condolences to his wife, Diane, and the entire family.  A solid man who possessed a great sense of humor.  He will be missed.
Roger and I met when we were kids and I was working at the North Highlands Bottle Shop and was about 14 or 15 years old. Roger's Dad would bring him in with him and then his Dad and my Great Uncle would chat for a few minutes each time they came in and his Dad would buy him a soda. A few years later Roger would ride his bike to the store and he would buy himself an RC Cola and the 2 of us would talk. This went on for years and during that time I became a Reserve with the Sheriff's Department. He asked me why and I told him of the stories the Officers would tell me when they came on for a break and a soda and bought some low priced cigarettes. It was my dream job to carry a gun, drive fast and wrestle people. When I was hired as an On-Call and left the Liquor Store, Roger took my place. He then heard the stories first hand. Roger then set his sights on becoming a member of SSD. When I was hired full time Roger completed the Reserve Academy and was getting ready to be hired as an On-Call. Since he was most likely going to the Jails and I was working their at the time he asked if he could spend a shift with me. We spent the night together and I gave him a complete tour of the Jail and we worked together through the full shift. Afterward we continued the educational experience and went with most of the shift to the Western, a bar that opened downtown at 6:00am, because we had worked the graveyard shift. There he got an entirely different education. We bumped into each other throughout the years although we were never assigned to the same shifts. I became a Sergeant and finished my career in North Patrol. After I retired, though Roger was already a Sergeant he posted on FB that he had Sgt Badge #24, my old badge#. I liked to think it was because he followed me through the Bottle Shop and the Department, but I know it was because of "Willie Mays". Roger was a great friend through out a lot of years.
So sorry to hear of his passing! I am great-full  to have met and worked with him at SSD or SSO now. He was truly a great man and full of great conversations! He will truly be missed! May he Rest In Peace!
I love you Roger ! A great big bear hug to you forever and ever! Sunshine in my eyes will make me cry and remind me of light you were in so many peoples live! The story of the women at the well with Jesus will forever remind me of you ! Let us not judge each other and ourselves by our sins. Roger you have been my Big Brother for so long, my go to person when life seems to crumble or there is a problem. I look at the pictures of you and your beautiful, humble spirt shines so bright with the love you have given to so many! I know you have passed it on in your children and grandchildren! They will forever carry you in their heart! Each child has a special part and trait that you have given them. I love you Brother ! till we meet again ! xoxo
