Roger's obituary
Roger James Bender, born September 30, 1942, in Eggee, Indiana, passed away peacefully at Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis, TN on July 4, 2024 after a long battle with Leukemia. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Roger's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Roger lived a life full of adventure and love. His journey took him from Indiana to California and finally to Tennessee, where he made countless memories and lasting friendships. He was married to his loving wife, Sydney Mayo Bender, with whom he shared many cherished years.
Roger is survived by his five children: Brian James Bender, Jennifer Bender Ducharme, Lisa Bender Rhodes, Cindy Bender Rabbitt and Gregory Bender. He was a proud grandfather to Braden James Bender, Zoey Marks, Logan Marks, Keira Bushor, Hunter James Bender and Allison Nichole Prewitt. His sister's Joan Hausch and Jean Riemke. His family was his greatest joy and source of pride.
A man of many passions, Roger found joy in hunting and the great outdoors, riding motorcycles, traveling, woodworking, and playing cards. He was known for his generous spirit and willingness to lend a hand to his neighbors, embodying a life of kindness.
In accordance with Roger’s wishes, he donated his body to science, hoping to contribute to the betterment of others. The family is holding a private Memorial Service and requests that any contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to Roger’s heart.
Roger's legacy of love, generosity, and adventure will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. His memory will forever be cherished.
