the Bruce High School Class of 1958 graduated on May 22. There were 51 of us. WE WERE FAMILY. Our Class Adviser Jerry Siverling commented that we were “The BEST class ever to graduate from Bruce High School”. And we just loved that and never forgot those words of praise and we remembered them this summer 67 years after our graduation at our annual reunion.
Roger and Mary were there until the 65th . WE always went around the room and all present gave an update on their activities and grandchildren. However, about a decade (maybe 2) ago, Roger suggested we share the name and some facts about the “Teacher that influenced us the most.” Țhat was a moment when we all realized what a profound difference these individuals had made in each of our lives, We know that as a teacher, Roger was exceptional. Indeed, he was one of the “stars” of the best Class ever to graduate from Bruce High School.. We were fortunate to be part of his family.

Ron and I were just reminiscing about how hard Roger and Mary worked building their lovely home back in the woods near the Rush River near Ellsworth and the wonderful times we had with them there. ❤️

He was a good guy, Mary, and you were his terrific partner in a life filled with adventures. In the last years you also were his fierce, resolute advocate and protector. I'm sure he knew and loved you all the more for that.

Mary & Monica: Please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of Roger. Roger & I had a great time teaching next door to each other at the old junior high in Ellsworth. He showed me the marks on his legs where the thumb tacks held up his socks. Lots of laughs. Peace & Love. Beth & Dave Kastberg

Roger and Mary brought so much to our community when they moved here in their retirement years, and, Roger will be missed by his friends and neighbors. But, we still have Mary, her courage and strength are a marvel and an example to us all.
