Rod's obituary

Rodney Wayne Peterson passed away peacefully on July 25, 2022, at Regions Hospital in Minnesota, surrounded by his loving family.

Rodney was born in Browning, Montana on October 2nd, 1958. He spent many of his younger years in Babb, Montana, where his roots and love for the mountains were firmly planted. He later spent time living in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and traveled extensively across the country as a truck driver. Eventually, he settled in Polk County, Wisconsin, where he built a life centered around family and hard work. It was there he met the love of his life, Leslie Ann Peterson. The two were married in 2004.

Rod was a proud and dedicated family man. He is survived by his wife, Leslie Peterson; his daughters, Amanda Peterson (Sophia Hansen), Katie Peterson (Dominic McGaughey), and Gracie Peterson (Benjamin Heffernan); and his sons, Tyler Bestland (Tatiana Mabin), JD Peterson, Jeremy Peterson, and Michael Young. He is also survived by his brothers, Larry Peterson, Curtis Peterson, and Junior Peterson.

Rodney’s greatest joy in life was being a grandfather. He loved his grandchildren; Carson, Abbi, Lennon, Sully Rod, and Montana- more than anything in the world.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Peterson Sr. and Gaylene Peterson; his sister, Georgia Nyquist; his uncle Roddy Peterson; his aunt Tami Peterson; his uncle Kenny Peterson; and his best friend, Jack Weber.

Rod built a life he was proud of. As the owner of “R. Peterson Distribution,” he dedicated himself to his trucking business and spent many years delivering products throughout the area, earning the nickname “the milk man” while delivering Land O’Lakes goods to local schools and stores. He truly loved life on the road and behind the wheel of a semi.

Rod’s heart was always split between Wisconsin and Montana. While he built a beautiful life in Wisconsin, the mountains of Montana were always calling him home. He often lived by the words, “the mountains are calling and I must go.”

He was a proud Blackfeet Indian, carrying his heritage with him in both spirit and humor. He often joked that he ran on “Indian time.” Rod had a soft soul and a big heart, especially when it came to his family. His smile could light up a room, and while those closest to him knew he could have a temper at times, they knew even more deeply how much he loved.

Rod enjoyed simple pleasures; watching Yellowstone, spending time with family, and living life on his own terms.

He is deeply missed by all who knew him, but especially by his children and grandchildren, who carry his love with them every day.
