Rod was a great mentor and a good friend.  He was a leader that was the first one to jump in the trenches with you.  I witnessed this over and over in our time working together.

He was a mentor that share every bit of knowledge he had to share but was also the first to call you out on things that needed to be called out with his infamous "listen here shipmate."

And he was the friend truly cared with his heart.  Always checking up on you professionally and personally; his provided a great example in my life of the type of character I would want to emulate.

I pray to see him one day again in God's kingdom by the grace of our Lord, Jesus.

Rod and I meet in Navy “A” school back in the early 80s. Found we were both from Westerville and had some of the same friends. While in training in Millington, TN, we would take turns driving to Ohio on our weekends off, he had a 69 Camero and I had a 73 Mustang. We would drive like a bat out of hell to get there each time. We graduated about the same time and both were sent to Moffett Fl, CA for more training where we were both married to our loved of our lives and had some great times. We were poor, but it didn’t matter. Our careers and lives took us in different directions, but we stayed in touch over the years. I got to talk to him for over an hour a week before he passed, we laughed and we cried. I am so grateful and blessed I was able to have that conversation and will truly miss my old friend.

I met Rod for the first time face to face in 2009. Little did we know we served on the Truman together years earlier. From that point forward he was a friend, confidant, and mentor.  Over the years Rod did not just teach me how to be a better engineer and manager, but more importantly a better man. I can not think of another person who loved his family more than Rod. He gave me hope that there is good in the world. I remember the day he told me Alexandra was pregnant and then later seeing the joy on his face when Ethan was born. I will forever be grateful to Rod, and thank you Kelley for sharing him.

Rod was a total professional and led by example. A man who said what he meant and stood by what he said. Honorable, Loyal, and Dedicated are adjectives that best describe the man and how he handled life. I worked with Rod for about 8 years and laughed, argued, debated, and agreed on various topics over that time, but at the end of the day, we were able to set it all aside and shake hands and move forward the next day. I will miss working with Rod and extend my prayers and condolences to the family on the loss.
