Bobbie's obituary
Roberta Marlene Christy, 75, of North Port, FL, known to many as Bobbie, passed away on May 18, 2024, at her residence in North Port, FL. She was born in New London, CT to the late Red and Ellie Coleman where she was raised and graduated from the Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, CT. Bobbie was a beloved member of her community, known for her giving spirit, perseverance and tenacity as she battled cancer on multiple occasions. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
On January 18, 1969, Bobbie married her first husband, the late Richard Christy. Bobbie and Rich moved to Ransomville, NY where Bobbie worked on the family dairy farm and gave birth to her only biological son, Davis.
Bobbie transitioned to the tourism industry in Niagara Falls, NY. She was an Account Executive for the Niagara Falls Convention and Visitors Bureau, and she also managed several hotels in the Western New York area.
In 1990, Bobbie gave up her work in tourism to pursue her passion in Nursing. Bobbie first became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and then while working fulltime, earned her Registered Nursing license. She dedicated much of her nursing career working with military veterans at the VA Medical Center in Buffalo, NY.
On August 8, 2009, Bobbie married David Anastasia, becoming the stepmother to Michael Anastasia. In 2014, Bobbie and Dave retired and moved to North Port, FL. While in North Port, Bobbie devoted much or her time volunteering for several service and charity organizations like Salvation Army, giving rides to those in need, and Hospice. Bobbie was also very active with the North Port Community United Church of Christ in North Port, FL where she quickly became a beloved member.
Bobbie had many skills and abilities. She was a master seamstress and many a family member or friend were the benefactors from her handiwork. Bobbie also loved to garden, cook, throw parties, play games and read.
Bobbie wasn't just a mother; she was the heart of the family. A devoted wife to Dave, a cherished mother to her children, and a welcoming mother-in-law, she nurtured everyone with her unwavering love and support. Bobbie’s warmth extended to her siblings, creating a strong bond, and to her friends, where her laughter and loyalty were treasured. Most of all, she cherished the role of grandmother, showering her grandson, Josiah, with affection and created lasting memories.
Bobbie's Memorial service will be held on October 17, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the North Port Community United Church of Christ in North Port, FL, 3450 S Biscayne Dr, North Port, FL 34287. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Salvation Army, a cause that was close to her heart.
