Roberta's obituary
Roberta Marie Brunger of Pontiac, IL formerly of Orange Beach, AL died at age 84 on Nov. 7, 2023 at Goldwater Care, Pontiac, IL. She was born Dec. 21, 1938 in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Martha E (Moroney) Weaver & Roy Moroney Sr. who proceeded her in death along with her husband Gordon Brunger, one brother Stephen Moroney and step-father Allin D. Weaver.
Surviving are children Lora Mitchell, Alicia (Lance) Daugherty, Robert (Susan) Brunger, Glen Brunger, Steve Brunger, Cyndia (Denny) Pearson and Cathy (Todd) Tyler. Grandsons Jaidin K and Maddox X. Daugherty, brothers Roy J. Moroney & William R. “Butch” (Sue) Moroney.
Roberta was employed by the State of Michigan for several years prior to her and Gordon moving in the late 1970’s to Orange Beach, Al, where she resided until the year 2020 when she moved back to Illinois, with the help of 3 of her nieces, due to health issues.
While residing in Orange Beach, Roberta drove a school bus part time, but her true passion shined when she worked in the church nursery caring for infants and small children.
Roberta and Gordon were married 48 years and loved to camp and travel, visiting many states, Alaska twice, Mexico and several countries. She loved to dance rock-and-roll, polka and in later life did a lot of line dancing. She enjoyed playing games with her company and solitary cards games when alone.
Roberta had a courageous fight with breast cancer and fought gallantly until the end, never giving up her sense of humor and feistiness. She loved to make people laugh. She enjoyed decorating with butterflies which could be found both inside and outside her home!
Roberta will be missed by friends and family, especially by her niece Christine Monical, who was Roberta’s primary caregiver for the past 24 months.
