Bobby's obituary

Bobby" Robert Webb Wooten departed this life and went to Heaven on June 17, 2024, at the age of 68, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

In his lifetime, Bobby was a master mechanic, service manager and car salesman who owned his own tool route. He concluded his career as the gas station manager at Costco in Charlottesville, VA. At Costco, Bobby never met a stranger and was a beacon of positivity to everyone he encountered.

Bobby found immense joy in life's simplest pleasures. He was a passionate pit master, combining his love of Southern traditions with his ability to bring people together through food and conversation. He was a member of the North Carolina BBQ Society, where he taught veterans and enthusiasts the traditions of East Carolina BBQ. His infectious joy and love for life were a constant source of inspiration for those around him.

Bobby's love for his family was unwavering. His father, Walter Robert Wooten, a Purple Heart World War II veteran instilled a deep sense of patriotism in him. Bobby was forced to grow up quickly when his father unfortunately passed when he was only sixteen. This helped shape him into a loving and devoted family man. Bobby loved, provided and mentored his immediate and extended family for his entire life.

As a civic minded member of the community, he was a Big Brother for the Boys Home of Virginia. He was president of the Bethlehem Bears football organization which provided clothes, rides, food and equipment to children and families in need. He and his wife Gail raised funds to build the organization's first concession stand.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents Walter Robert Wooten and Myrtie Jernigan Coble. He is survived by his soulmate of 44 years, Gail Barnes Wooten; his sons Rob Wooten (wife Katherine) and Dustin Wooten (wife Meredith) and grandchildren Brenden and Scarlett Wooten. His sisters, Linda Beckwith and Dolores (Lori) Angel (husband Steve). Brother-in-law Jay Barnes (wife Kinsey) nephews; Rick Horton (wife June), Mason Angel, Zach Barnes and nieces, Katherine Bevel, Logan Angel and Gabby Barnes.

As his final wish, Bobby requested that his family and friends gather in celebration of his life. Please join us on July 20th at Center of the Universe Brewing Company in Ashland, VA. We kindly request your RSVP: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/….
