Bob's obituary
Elder Robert James Wirl, 69, passed from this life on May 27, 2022 after a 20-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Bob was born May 23, 1953 to William John Wirl and Ruth (Hoffman) Wirl in New Eagle, PA. After Bob graduated from Bethel Park High School in 1971, he went on to study Environmental Science at California State College in California, PA. Three years into his education, he made the decision to redirect his life focus and changed to biblical studies at Obadiah School of the Bible, where he graduated in the Spring of 1977. After graduation, he returned to teach there, educating others in the subjects of Old Testament History, Books and Parchments, Studying & Using the Bible, Conducting Public Worship, and Homiletics.
Bob was ordained as a Teaching Elder at the Feast of Tabernacles in the Fall of 1977 and went on to preach and teach biblical principles for the next 40 years until his Parkinson’s prevented him from continuing. He was employed by several sacred name assemblies during those years, working in the pre-press and printing departments, writing articles, preaching sermons, conducting Bible studies, counselling, and answering a myriad of Bible questions. Bob impacted hundreds as his many ministerial travels took him throughout the United States, Canada, Bahamas, West Indies islands, and Guyana. Because of his gentle conduct while dealing with questions, issues, and problems, he was referred to as “the peoples’ Elder.”
In 1974, Bob met Debra Blouch at Bethel, PA and they were married November 30, 1976. Bob & Debbie went on to have four children: Ellie Dimmett (husband, Randy), Joel Wirl (wife, Amanda), Abbie Cecil (husband, Lucas), and Sharon Brewer (husband, Nick). Bob has also left behind four grandchildren: Annika Dimmett, Ayden Dimmett, Oliver Brewer, and Graeme Cecil. He is also survived by a brother, William Wirl Jr (wife, Cindy) of Carlisle, PA and a sister, Janet Jones (husband, Robert) of Strongsville, Ohio, along with five nephews, seven nieces, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. His parents, William and Ruth Wirl, predeceased him, as well a sister, Joanne Kuskill (husband, Charles) and a nephew, Robert Jones Jr.
