Born in Atlanta, Georgia to Robert Tate Miller Sr. and Marilyn McDonald Miller, Robert was raised in the North Carolina mountain town of Hendersonville, where he and his sister Kay built fond memories growing up around the family-owned Bonaire Motel. He graduated from East Henderson High School and attended the University of Georgia where he received a journalism degree and remained a devoted Georgia Bulldogs fan.
