Robert's obituary
It is with our deepest sorrow that we inform you of the death of Robert W. Suggs, who passed away on September 6, 2024. Robert was born on July 3, 1938, and lived a fulfilling life filled with laughter and wisdom.
He leaves behind his beloved daughters, Laura Fidler, and Lynn Kelly, of Columbia, SC. His brothers, Herman G. Suggs of Loris, SC, Thomas K. Suggs, Jr. , Randy M. Suggs of Columbia, SC, a sister, Bonnie S. Anderson of Columbia, SC, and a special friend, Sara Frances Way, of Murrells Inlet, SC.
Robert is predeceased by his Father and Mother, Thomas Kirby Suggs and Leatha Brittie Suggs. He is also predeceased by two sisters, Bernice S. Anderson and Betty Lou S. Hammack, and two brothers, Thomas Howard Suggs, and Jerry A. Suggs.
Grandchildren Britton Harrell, of Mount Pleasant, SC and Drew Edwards, of Charleston, SC.
Great Grandchildren Rowan and Lakyn Harrell, of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Adeline Edwards, of Charleston, SC are amongst numerous other close family members and friends who will mourn his loss. We find comfort in the knowledge that they will carry his memory with them, keeping his spirit alive through the lessons he imparted and the stories they share.
Robert graduated from Clemson University in 1960 and worked professionally with the Federal Government's USDA Farmers Home Administration. Upon retirement, he owned a successful landscaping business for many years.
Robert was very sharp-minded and talented. He was known for his positive, upbeat demeanor. He had a gift for storytelling and could always be relied upon to lighten the mood with a humorous joke. His laughter and charismatic presence will be greatly missed.
Robert was passionate about educating others and instilling in them a love for cooking. He won 1st prize-in the Loris Bog-Off contest.. He loved teaching others how to create his special version of this family recipe for delicious Chicken Bog. He enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends, going fishing, piloting small airplanes, gardening, and watching his Clemson Tigers play football.
Robert's generosity was a defining characteristic that will be deeply missed. He always sought ways to help those in need, not out of obligation but due to his genuine desire to improve the lives of those around him. His legacy of generosity will continue to inspire and influence those who were fortunate enough to know him.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you honor Robert’s memory by adopting his spirit of generosity, helping a neighbor in need, or by simply sharing a good joke to brighten someone's day. It is in these simple acts of kindness that we can truly honor Robert's memory and keep his legacy alive.
