Robert's obituary

Robert “Bob” Leonard Sobota was born on January 27, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio and passed away on April 15, 2023 at the age of 77.

Bob, an Army veteran and proud Ohio State Alumni, helped raise his two boys in Columbus, Ohio. Bob had a lifelong love of sports, especially lacrosse, hockey, golf and soccer, which he shared with his sons and grandchildren. He was welcoming and kind to all, and treated all living things with compassion and love.

After retiring from Meritor, Bob moved south to enjoy warmer weather and be closer to family settling in Calabash, NC. He was a constant presence in his church and at AA meetings, and was incredibly proud of his 19 years of sobriety. He loved playing golf, visiting the VFW and spending time with family and friends.

Bob is survived by his sons Jason (Tarrah) Sobota and Jeffrey (Renee) Sobota, grandchildren, Connor, Austin, Charlotte and Evan, as well as his sister-in-law Judy Sobota. Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Delores Bitt, his father, Clarence Sobota, and his brother, Richard Sobota.

Bob’s passion for animals, especially dogs, was second to none. To carry on his love for dog’s, and continue his support of Veterans, his family would like to ask that you make a donation in Bob Sobota’s memory to Project2Heal (https://www.project2heal.org/…)
