Robert's obituary

Robert L Slate Jr. born July 17th, 1948, passed peacefully June 8th, 2024, surrounded by his family. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Mary. He leaves behind his loving wife of 35 years, Barbara, his stepsons Geoffrey (Carrie), Jonathan (Mary), and his sister Barbara. Bob was affectionately known as “Gramps” to his 4 grandchildren, Madelyn, Emily, Robert and Abigail whom he loved dearly, and they loved dearly in return.

Bob was a career educator and administrator with a love of history, politics and sports, specifically the Boston Red Sox, and his beloved Virginia Cavaliers. Bob left an indelible mark on generations of students and his commitment to education and learning enriched the lives of many.

Bob loved his family and he loved to laugh. He loved Barbara dearly, he loved and supported Geoff and Jon as though they were his own sons, and he never missed a chance to spend time with his grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his kindness, wisdom and love and will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

In honoring Bob’s memory, let us reflect on the profound impact he had on those around him and the legacy of love and learning he leaves behind. May he rest in peace knowing his spirit lives on in the hearts and minds of those who knew him and loved him dearly.
