Robert's obituary

A Life Well Lived.

Robert William Rizzo was born to Vic and Linda Rizzo on Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas on July 21st, 1962.

Robert attended Texas A&M University where he received his bachelor’s degree in marketing and communications. He later attended the University of Texas at Dallas where he received his MBA. After college he worked for Galveston Daily News as a photographer and had a brilliant eye for photography. Robert met the love of his life, Ava, through their church. They immediately shared an undeniable connection and love for one another. Robert proposed within 4 weeks, and they were married within 4 months. Those around them thought they were crazy, but Robert knew he had found his one true love. Together they became ordained ministers, learned Spanish, and spent several years in Honduras as missionaries. They shared 32 beautiful years together and were an incredible example of true love and commitment that many looked up to and admired. Robert and Ava had two daughters, Abigail and Moriah, who he loved deeply. Robert was a faithful and loving husband and the best “girl dad”. He always made sure his daughters knew how loved and special they were to him. Robert had two grandchildren, Emery and Hudson, that he adored spoiling and spending time with. He was fondly known to his grandchildren as ‘Poppy’. His face would light up any time they were around. He was “Poppy-extraordinaire”. Robert held many special roles within his family. He was the go-to mechanic, handy man, tech guy, human dictionary, family chef, professional fire starter, grill master, all around entertainer, and a steady voice of reason.

Robert was a mighty man of God and loved the Lord with his whole heart. He was a man of integrity and always preached doing the right thing even when it is hard. He was a great leader to his family in faith and through life. Robert had the purest soul, and a heart made of absolute gold. He was genuine and humble. He loved unconditionally. Not just his family, but those around him. Robert was a very dependable guy and someone you could always count on. He was a sacrificial man, putting everyone’s needs above his own. He was selfless and generous. He was so full of grace for others and always wanted to see the best in people. He loved to push others to their highest potential and to always strive to be better. He was so full of wisdom and loved being a light in the lives of those around him. Robert touched countless lives with his sweet spirit and powerful prayers.

Robert’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He loved the outdoors and spending time in nature. He always said it was where he felt closest to God. He loved hiking and being in the mountains with his wife. He enjoyed biking and photography. He also loved playing his guitar and singing around the house. It was recently discovered that Robert was a “selfie” king. He was a coffee and root beer connoisseur and had a great liking for good BBQ. Robert had a great sense of humor and loved to make others laugh.

After being diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer in July 2023, Robert fought long and hard to get as much time as he could with his family. He never wanted to be thought of as a quitter. He was a strong man up until his last breath on September 2nd, 2024. He went peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.

Robert is survived by his parents Vic and Linda Rizzo, his sister Michelle Rizzo, loving wife Ava Rizzo, their two daughters Abigail Roy and Moriah Rizzo, and grandchildren Emery Vincent and Hudson Roy.
