Robert “Rick”'s obituary

Robert “Rick/Bubba” Heisler

Rick, as he was known to most, was born on February 6 1962, in Marysville California and passed to his rest of natural causes on September 6, 2023 in Eugene Oregon.

Rick was the first born son of Pastor Robert “Bob” Heisler and Anita Engel Heisler a RN; a missionary family. Rick spent much of his formative years with his family overseas, where his father ministered for the Seventh day Adventist church. The family served for 11 years in Brazil, then 5 years in Singapore. During his high school years, at Far Eastern Academy, in Singapore, Rick made life long friends from around the globe; including his - 30 years in the future - wife Sandra; whom he dated as a freshman.

Upon graduation and returning to the US, Rick attended several church colleges but ended up at Lane Community College in Eugene, when his parents returned to Oregon permanently.

Rick later graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice from Portland State University and served with Portland PD for several years.

After leaving law enforcement, Rick or Bubba as he was known by co-workers, went into the trades and spent almost 30 year in concrete services all over the Metro Portland area. Rick enjoyed pointing out his work whenever he showed off ‘his city!”

In 2011 Rick reconnected with Sandra, or Sandy, and the two married in 2015 at a service performed by his Dad in Florence. By this time the two had moved to Placerville California for Sandy’s career advancement and Rick formed a one man business of small job concrete repair and install.

In 2021 Rick and Sandy returned to the PNW via TriCities WA, then McMinnville, and finally Eugene: following Sandy’s career advancements. Rick was her champion and was in charge of logistics and their 2 fur babies.

Rick loved Florence where his family has a home on Woahink Lake. Throughout their marriage they visited as often as they could. Rick and later Sandy, were Portland Timbers fans and season ticket holders; they traveled great distances to support their team throughout their marriage. Rick also loved EPL soccer and weekends were filled with televised games. Old Honda Motorcycles, were Ricks hobby and he had no less than 5 being restored at any given time.

Finally Rick loved being an Uncle to his three nieces & nephew, and a grandfather to 5 grandchildren he acquired when he married Sandy. He saw them, and their parents, as his own! The weekend before his death grandpa helped their only granddaughter surprise Sandy with a trip to Florence (OR) where she flew in to join them for the long weekend. He was full of happiness following that trip and loved being a grandpa and an uncle!

Rick is survived by his father Robert L Heisler, his wife of 9 years Sandra Haskins Heisler, his sister Rachelle Nerseth (Jay), his brother (and best friend) Hal (Emily), Stepchildren Travis (Miranda), Andrew (Sierra), Jonathan (Nikki), Grandchildren Avery, Hope, Aiden, Graydee, and Liam. Favorite nieces Megan and Sarah Heisler, Neice & Nephew Kyleigh and Zachery, Grandniece Stella, and numerous Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins on the Heisler and Engel side. He leaves numerous friends and acquaintances in the Portland area, and all over the world with his Far Eastern Academy friends.

Rick is preceded in death by his beloved mother Anita Engel Heisler and father in law Leland Shultz.

Rick preferred no fuss upon his death, he was cremated in Eugene and will await the Lords return with family.

A celebration of Life will be held in Portland on Nov 12. Those wishing to participate in person or electronically, can email family for details at rheisler@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to The Longest Day Alzheimer’s team in your community, honoring the Heisler family.
